Hello, I'm Mitchell

I have always known that I wanted to work in a ‘helping’ profession and make an impact on people’s lives in a diverse way. I am patient, empathetic and provide a psychologically safe environment for people to discuss their problems. In my studies, I enjoyed learning about different psychological theories, as well as how to practice as a scientist-practitioner using evidence-based practice.

I have extensive experience working with clients of all different ages, ethnicities, genders, and backgrounds. I have a keen interest in treating clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and burnout. I am also very passionate about men’s mental health awareness. Therapy for me is about forming a strong therapeutic relationship with the client to bring about psychological change through helping them to recognise their values and empower them to overcome personal challenges.

I also have a keen interest in psychological assessment, particularly personality, ADHD and cognitive assessments. I understand psychological assessment to be a process of problem solving and achieving diagnostic clarity for the client, which provides a better understanding of a person’s personality and capabilities, leading to better treatment outcomes.

I have a special interest in working with ADF clients, veterans, SIRA (WorkCover), and trauma. I also enjoy working with children and adolescents with ADHD, autism, or trauma.

My Story

I completed my undergraduate degree (Bachelor of Arts) in Psychology at the University of Tasmania. I completed my Honours degree in Psychology at Charles Sturt University. I then completed my Masters in Professional Psychology at Macquarie University.

I am trained in a range of evidence-based approaches that are tailored to meet a client’s specific therapeutic goals. These therapies are: Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) and Brief Solution-Focused Therapy (BSFT).  These modalities are structured therapeutic approaches that address specific mental health concerns and support clients in achieving their goals. They focus on identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns, enhancing coping strategies, and improving relationships with others.

When I am not working, you can find me surfing up and down the beaches of NSW (I sometimes have a ridiculous tan-line on my arms and neck from my wetsuit).

I would encourage future clients to bring an open mind and be honest!
